Heart Rate Experiments!

First I have to say, sorry the blog hasn't been published in a while, we have just been SOOOOOOO busy! Anyway, today we did an experiment to test our heart rate after we did some activities, resting, running in place, jumping jacks, and sit ups. in math we reveiwed the rainbow check and worked on equivilent fractions. We also talked about our science projects for the science fair with a REAL scientists! Everyone get in the Christmas Spirit because tomorrow is our Holiday Party!

The Dreaded Writing Benchmark

Today we had our last benchmark for 2007, oh thank heavens! It was the VERY LONG writing benchmark. We had to answer revising and editing questions. Then when you were done with that you had to write a composition no more than two pages long about a time when you found something special. Once everyone was done we worked on our helicopters for 20-30 min. Hope everyone is happy that the big tests are over until March/April!(TAKS)

Adding & Subtracting Fractions!

Today in math we made fraction wheels and made our own problems either adding or subtracting. We learned how to convert fractions. Also we did a game where we found where the fraction went on the # line from 0-1. We will be competeing against Ms. Fuentes's class to see who can get the most right. We did not do any science today. Everyone go home, relax, and get a good night's sleep, because tomorrow is the very last benchmark, for writing!

Reading Benchmark!

Today we did the Reading Benchmark,(Dun Dun Dun!) It took most of the day! Our classroom was very warm today. The a-c was not working so we had to borrow a fan from another teacher. Everyone have a good, relaxing, day to wind down from the big, long, testing day!

Math/Science Stations!

Today we combined math and science together in Friday Stations! We had to do three mult. problems and check it with either division or another mult. stategy. We also revised our fractions pop quiz with a partner. And we finished our results graph for paper type vs. time. We figured out that construction paper fell fastest. Also, some of us were able to try to make a helicopter that could stay in the air for the longest amount of time alone or with up to four partners. Have a FANTASTIC day!!!

Math Benchmark

Today we did the math benchmark with fourty-two questions. That test, just like yesterday, every one of the students dread it. Be sure to go home and relax because tomorrow we have the social studies benchmark!Hope your day has nothing to do with THE EVIL, SCIENCE BENCHMARK!

The Dreadfully Long Science Benchmarch!

Today we did the test every student dreads......THE SCIENCE BENCHMARK!!!! It took ALL DAY! Also we had Mrs. Tharp as a sub. (again!) She is a very nice sub and that is probably why we have her so much. We don't have much to write today because we were doing the benchmark today! Go home and relax because tomorrow we have the math benchmark!

Paper Type V.S Time

Today we started a new expremint.I'ts called Paper Type V.S Time with paper helcopter.We only got to hypothesis but its was still fun.But not as fun as expermint stage!In math we made creative fractions using geoboards. Also today we learned that our catepillar will borrow down into the dirt until spring and it will be a moth. Have an excellent day!

Fraction Pop Quiz!

Today in math we had a fractions pop quiz! We also finished/checked our math warmup from yesterday. AND we made halfs out of crazy looking cakes, with only one cut. In science we wrote conclusions for our paper helicopter experiment. have a great weekend!

Paper Helicopter Graphs/Averages!

Today in science we learned how to calculate averages. And we made graphs to organize our data. In math we did a math warmup and played The Fraction Game! We also checked our math homework. We also found out that our little buddy class will be Ms. Houdyshell's class. That's all for today!

Paper Helicopters!

Today in science we conducted an experiment with paper helicopters. We were testing wich helicopter would stay in the air the longest. In math we checked our math warmup from yesterday and did one for today. So that wraps it up for today! Check back here tomorrow for the latest news!

Fractions!

Today in math we folded fractions. In science we went to Mr. Roth's classroom to learn about the variables of a science experiment. We also learned about the scintific method. Have a GREAT day!

Starting Fractions!

Today we had a meeting on the carpet and we will be starting our fractions unit. We took notes on what we know about fractions weather it was ture or not. Then we did committes. Before our meeting most of us finished our thanksgiving meals and have started the fun sheet that were supposed to do. We all had a pretty good Thanksgiving Holiday Break and hope you did to!

Thanksgiving Meals!

Today we worked on our thanksgiving meals where we look in little booklets and decide what food we want then find a total. We also finished presenting our powerpoint human body systems presentations. We also got to tour the marble machines in Mr.Roth's room! Have a awesome thanksgiving break!

Human Body Presentations Day!

Today we had three human body power point presentations. They were nervous system, the skeletal system, and immune system. They were all great! We also started a project where we had to compare stores for prices in buying a Thanksgiving Meal. We also went around and looked at marble machines. So, as you see, we had a pretty busy day, but we hope your's is as enjoyable and relaxing as ever!!!

Unexpected Fire Drill!

Today we had an unexpected fire drill! In math we did a math warmup and reviewed nutrition labels at mypyramid.gov. In science we were supposed to finish our human body power points, and most of us did, but some didn't because the fire drill took up some of our power point time. Substitute!!!

Today we had a sub and we continued(again)our human body power points, some of us are almost finished! In math we did the math warm up and work in our math money packet. Have a BRILLIANT day!!!!!!!!!!!!

Work, Work, Work

Today we had a VERY VERY VERY busy day! We continued our human body power points and they are due monday, so they are suppose to be done friday. Also in science we learned how to take proper notes. Austin Jazz Workshp at Clayton!

Today Austin Jazz Workshop came to our school to perform an awesome jazz performance!We also did our human body power points. Everyone's is looking awesome! Good Bye for now and have a jazzy day!

Today we had a sub named Mrs. Tharp. In science we went to Mr. Roth's classroom to have two geologists talk to us about the Edwards Aquifer and polution. Also in science we started our powerpoints on the different body systems. In math we did a page in our money packet. Hope you have a great day!

Power Outage!

Today we had a power outage while we were beginning our powerpoints about the human body. We were divided into groups about different subjects in our body (nerve, immune, skeletal, digestive, muscular, circulation systems). We also finished and were timed on our marble machines. Everyone's machine was AWESOME!!! Have a super day!!!

Menu Test

Today in math we did a menu test. We were expected to find the sub total, tax, tip, total, and change to the meals we bought. It was so much fun(believe it or not)! In science we continued our marble machines, again. Have a good day!

Marble Tracks!

Today in science we did marble ramps. In math we checked our math homework. Also in math we finished our THUNDERCLOUD RESTERAUNT lunch orders. That's pretty much it. Have an AWESOME day!

Happy Halloween!

Today in science we started to build marble ramps with 1-4 partners. Partners made ramps for a marble to go down. In math we had a spooky Halloween warm-up. HAVE A FUN SPOOKY HALLOWEEN!

Halloween Fall Centers!

We went to other classes to do different things related to Halloween and Fall. In Ms.Lawson's class we made and ate dirt(pudding & crushed oreos). In Mr.Roth's class we made crystal balls or bubble with dry ice. That's ice that never dries. In Mrs.Wotring's class we listened to Tailybone by: David Holt and wrote about it. In Ms.Keene's class we made stories and passed them around so each person wrote a part of your story. It was AWESOME!! Have a great day!

Flipped Classrom

Today we got organization boxes for our desk to put our stuff in. In science we continued our earth museum plaques, and some of us finished! Our classroom got totally flipped around! We are still in the same seats just the tables are in different places. Hope everyone likes where the tables are! Have a great day!

Earth Plaques

Today in Ms. Lawson's class we wrote a paper on what we are good at and what we need to work on some more in math. In science we continued our earth plaque drafts. Horay for math and science!!!

Volcanoes!!!

Today we had a sub named Ms. Fuentes. We also watched an awesome video on volcanoes! In math we tried to finish 3 work sheets in our math folder packet. Have a BLASTING day!

Field Trip!

Today we went on a field trip to Westcave Preserve. We went on a nature hike and got to go inside a cave! After that we got to learn about aquifers and how they work, and we discovered that our school is on top of one! (The Edwards Aquifer) I can't wait till our next field trip! Have a great day!

Commities!

Today in Miss Lawson's Class, we played a game called,'That Place Value Game'. We also started making museum plaques for are earth models. We switched to our different committies. Have a spooky day! (even though it feels like Christmas!)

Play-Doh Earths!

Today we made our Earths! They all came out great! We also went over our homework and did a Math Warm-up. That was all we got done today!

Pumpkin!

Today we worked more on math did a few warm-ups, and did a worksheet. For science we worked on our Earth projects. Right now, we are working on copying information down in our journals. We also got to work on our class pumpkin!!!

Receipts!

Today we learned about recepits and everything that's on them. We also made questions about the earth. We checked our homework and did a math warm up too. Have a good day!!!

Assembly!

Today we had a short math quiz to practice lattice and box methods. We also watched Magic School Bus and took some notes about what we learned from the movie. After that, we went to an assembly where we decide on who to vote for for president in Mr.Roth's class. We are also getting to a good part of the book we're reading!

Quick Science Quiz

Today we did a little quiz where we wrote down everything we know about rocks and minerals. We also finished our earth materials notebooks. We also had to have an indoor recess because it was not so good outside.=) Have a good day!

Centers!

Today we finished up doing centers, we did a lottery game, a birthstone paper, and we had a choice of playing lunch order, grocery store or book orders. We also worked more on rocks today!

Today we worked and are finished with our mock rocks. We also did lunch bunch today. We also did centers where we worked with birthstones and how to use money.

Lattice Method

Today we worked more on our rocks and we also learned a new method for math! We practiced using it in our journals and had two challenge problems. We got to an exciting part of our new book today too!

Science!

Today we did a lot of science! We worked with our rocks some more. We also worked on learning 11's in multiplication. We are starting a new book today also! Have a great day!

Today we worked more on rocks and we crushed them too! We also finished our last chapter of "On the Road" with Sit and Down Girl. We didn't have time to work on math. Not much to write about today.

Custodian Assembly

Today we worked a lot with money and how to give out change. We also did a rock chart and measured our rocks. We also went to a custodian assembly because it's their special day today!

Today we played a new game called close to 100! We also had a visitor that came and told us all about the Greensheet newspaper. Some of you might even appear in it! Have a good day!

Today we did critter graphs. We got to make a graph for all of the tables critters for height, area, mass, and volume! Just now we did science that was about commuication and it was awesome!!! Now we are reading "Ghost Grave"! Hope you have an awesome day!!!

benchmark

Today we did our beginning of the year benchmark! It took a long time to do it for most people. We did our best and are being great cardinals!!!!! We are also working on paper thats about ourselfs. Well, hope you all had a great day! :)

Busy!!!

Today was a fun day! We did a test for math and practiced for the benchmark tomorrow. We didn't get to do as much because of the long assembly in the morning. Remember to get lots of sleep tonight for our benchmark tomorrrow!

Scientists!

Today was a great day! We did more car racing this afternoon!!! Good job at winning Table one! We did some chromatography too and tried to figure out what black ink is made of. We also watched a bus safety video and after that we had a bus drill!!! Have an awesome weekend!

First Project

Today was a wacky day! In Mrs. Wotring's class we got our very first book report assignment. You will get a project every nine weeks. We also are almost halfway through the book "Search for the Shadowman". In Ms. Lawson's class we did handwriting analysis again and we also did more centers!!! You all did awesome today!!!!

Job Letters!

Today was a very talkative day. In Mrs. Wotring's class we worked on our job letters and some of you started on your final drafts. We also got to the library for the first time today! In Ms. Lawson's class we worked on using money and did a pre-test. We also worked on handwriting analysis for science. Today was a crazy day!

Today we got out our class hamster and put it into a hamster ball. We made a mase for the hamster to roll in!We also did car races it was one of the best things today!We are doing class commiittess!This day is a super day!

Centers!!!

Today in Mrs.Wotrings class we worked on our job letters and had our first spanish class!!! In Ms.Lawsons class we did an experiment with baking soda, corn starch, salt and vinegar. Miss Lawson's class

Detectives!!

Today we went to Ms.Wotrings class and did social studies and we worked on our Addie in Charge flipbooks. We also checked our spelling homework. We also got to read a chapter of "Search of the Shadowman". You all did an awesome job on working in teams with our little growing dinosaurs. So far everyone's doing good, this is kinda a mystery because we don't know what's going to happen to our dinosaurs. I hope you all had a great day today!!!

So I forgot to add one yesterday! Oops! And hopefully our new blogger - Lauren - will be updating this tomorrow... Now if I only had time to show her how...

Today was better than yesterday. We had a little practice in quieting down that went well... now let's see if it sticks! Today was fun with a Measuring Mass activity. Each student had the chance to use the TRIPLE BEAM BALANCE (remember that name!). We also did some observing and inferring with mystery canisters in science. Great use of Onomatopoeia, class!

August 31st
A whole week already! I have to say that for my first week as a teacher and your first week as a fourth grader, we did a great job! There are some kinks to work out over the next weeks, but all in all not bad! Today was jam packed with finishing our posters, measure me, our grape activities, and poison tournament! Congrats to Meredith and Emily who are so far the reining champs. Have a great fun weekend. Remember to write me a short note about the past week. See you Tuesday!

August 30th
WHOA! What a radicool rothman day! Today we got to join forces with Mr.Roth's class for a lesson in observing and inferring grapes, raisins and seven up. Each class did great. We also started our "Measure Me" project, which should be ready for Back to School on the 10th. Tomorrow we will find out who is better - Rothman's or Lawson's at POISON!!! Ultimate face - off. Hopefully come Tuesday (NO SCHOOL MONDAY) a student from my homeroom will be updating the blog. And guess what, TOMORROW is FRIDAY!!!

August 29th
Alright my homeroom, its time to really think about what committee you want to be on for the next nine weeks! You will be the first, so be ready to pave the way for the next group. Review those committee sheets sent home and make those tough decisions. I thought the measuring scavenger hunt was a success! You all did a great job in your partnerships. Remember you are fourth graders now and it is time to take control of your learning, so don't forget to self-analyze and decide if your choices are helping you succeed. Those science posters are looking pretty slick, now we just need to finish them!!! Today was crunched for our super awesome cool experiments in science UT presentation. My homeroom was excellent for two assemblies in a row now, keep it up!

August 28th
Whew! What a day! We switched rooms for the first time and I was able to meet Mrs. Wotring's students. I am trying my hardest to learn these names... it might be awhile. Today we created our own personal meter sticks and did a great job listening and following instructions on such a particular assignment. We also worked on Science Safety Agreement posters, which those forms need to be signed and brought back. By the way great job to my homeroom for getting their agendas signed. Parents feel free to leave me notes in the agenda, as I will be checking it each morning. Now I'm off to get ready for tomorrow and finish up those class committees lists.

August 27th
What a great first day! Waking up so early makes me really want a nap, I am sure some of you are pretty tired too. Today we had the chance to make flying machines in our tabled groups. We also learned about the traits of a champion through reading Wilma Unlimited By Kathleen Krull. Our class was complimented by Dr. Robinett in the hallway and did an excellent job paying attention in the assembly, even though we were so far back! So you guys should be proud of that!
